Alma Mahler was born as Alma Schindler on August 31, 1879, in Vienna, Austria. Her father was a wealthy lawyer and her mother was a pianist. Alma began studying music at a young age and she eventually became a composer herself. However, she is best known for her marriages to two famous composers, Gustav Mahler and Walter Gropius. Alma died in New York City on December 11, 1964.
