Benny Goodman led one of the first integrated jazz groups during the era of racial segregation. This was a time when black and white people were not allowed to interact in public places, and it was very difficult for black musicians to find work in white bands. Goodman, however, was determined to break down these barriers, and he assembled a group of musicians that included both black and white players.
