During World War II, Günther Rall was shot down five times. In March 1940, while flying an Me 109 during the invasion of Norway, Rall was shot down by a Royal Air Force Gloster Gladiator. In July 1940, he was shot down again while flying over France during the Battle of Britain. In September 1941, he was shot down for the third time during the invasion of the Soviet Union.
