Mark Wayne Clark served in the United States Army for thirty-six years, from 1917 to 1953. He saw action in World War I and World War II, and was one of the most decorated American soldiers of the twentieth century. Clark was also a gifted military strategist, and is credited with playing a key role in the Allied victory in World War II.
