Answer
Peter Doherty is a professor of immunology and is known for his work on how the immune system recognizes viruses. In particular, he and his colleague Rolf Zinkernagel showed that the immune system can recognize virus-infected cells by identifying proteins on the surface of the cells that are produced by the virus. This work led to the development of vaccines for a number of diseases, including measles and hepatitis B.
