A. de Herz's writing in the early 1910s was surrounded by suspicions of plagiarism, as critics noticed similarities between his work and that of other writers. In 1913, one critic accused Herz of plagiarizing the work of French poet Paul Verlaine, and in 1914, another critic accused him of plagiarizing the work of German poet Heinrich Heine.
