Zaharia Stancu (born 14 October 1898, died 31 December 1974) was a Romanian novelist and short story writer, noted for his depiction of the peasantry. He had his literary breakthrough thanks to A. de Herz, who published his short story "Pasărea furtunii" ("The Bird of the Storm") in his magazine "Viaţa Românească" in 1927.
