A. E. van Vogt was born in 1912. He was a Canadian-American author of science fiction. He is best known for his Hugo Award-winning novels Slan (1946) and The World of Null-A (1945), as well as his short stories "The Weapon Makers" (1942) and "The Voyage of the Space Beagle" (1950).
