Nicholson played two seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He initially signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2013. Later that year, he was waived by the Chargers and subsequently signed to the practice squad of the New England Patriots. He was promoted to the Patriots' active roster in December 2013 and made his NFL debut the following week.
