The new Chief Minister of Sarawak, Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Abang Openg, was elected by the state legislature on 18 January 2017, after the death of the incumbent, Adenan Satem, on 11 January 2017. Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Abang Openg is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the largest party in the ruling coalition, Barisan Nasional. He was the Deputy Chief Minister under Adenan Satem.
