Abbas II died at the age of 34, after ruling for 12 years. He was the eldest son of Shah Sultan Hussein, and succeeded him to the throne in 1666. Abbas II was a weak ruler, and his reign was marked by political instability and economic decline. He was overthrown by his half-brother Tahmasp II in 1694, and died shortly thereafter.
