Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami worked as a screenwriter before he began directing. He wrote screenplays for several films by other directors, including Dariush Mehrjui's 1969 film "The Cow" and Ebrahim Golestan's 1972 film "The House is Black." Kiarostami's first feature film as a director, "The Traveler," was released in 1974.
