Abbé Pierre was a French Roman Catholic priest and humanitarian. He is best known for his work with the homeless in France, particularly after World War II. He was popular all over France, but his work in the city of Paris was especially well-known. He founded the Emmaus community in 1949, which provides housing and other services to the homeless.
