Abbé Pierre was born in Lyon, France in 1912. He was a Catholic priest and humanitarian who was best known for his work with the homeless. He founded the Emmaus movement in 1949, which provides housing and other services to the homeless. He was also a member of the French Resistance during World War II. Abbé Pierre died in 2007 at the age of 94.
