Abd al-Karim Qasim was a military officer and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Iraq from 1958 to 1963. He was a member of the Iraqi Ba'ath Party and led the 1958 Iraqi coup d'état that overthrew the monarchy. Qasim's government was characterized by its Arab nationalist and socialist policies. He was overthrown in a 1963 coup d'état led by the Ba'ath Party and executed.
