Adolf Galland served in the Luftwaffe, the air force of Nazi Germany during World War II. He was a highly decorated fighter pilot and one of the most successful aces of the war. He was also a proponent of the use of jet aircraft, and he helped to develop the Messerschmitt Me 262, the first operational jet fighter.
