Adolfo Suárez was a Spanish lawyer, politician, and statesman who served as the first Prime Minister of Spain after the end of the Franco dictatorship. He was a member of the conservative Union of the Democratic Centre party, and served as Prime Minister from 1976 to 1981. Suárez oversaw the transition of Spain from dictatorship to democracy, and was responsible for the drafting of the 1978 Constitution of Spain.
