Adolfo Suárez oversaw the end of the Francoist Cortes, which was the parliament of Spain under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. He was the prime minister of Spain from 1976 to 1981 and oversaw the transition of Spain from dictatorship to democracy. The Cortes was dissolved in 1977 and replaced by the Spanish Parliament.
