Adrian Smith joined Iron Maiden in 1980, replacing Dennis Stratton. Smith had previously been a member of Urchin and ASAP, and he brought a more melodic and technical style to Iron Maiden's sound. He played on some of the band's most successful albums, including "The Number of the Beast" (1982), "Piece of Mind" (1983), and "Powerslave" (1984).
