Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr was born in Tikrit, Iraq in 1914. He was a military officer and politician who served as the President of Iraq from 1968 to 1979. He was a member of the Ba'ath Party and was involved in the 1968 coup d'état that brought the party to power. He was a close ally of Saddam Hussein, who succeeded him as President. Al-Bakr died in 1982.
