Ahmed Sékou Touré served as the President of Guinea from its independence from France in 1958 until his death in 1984. He was the first President of Guinea and ruled for over 26 years. His terms of office were seven years each, beginning in 1958, 1965, 1972, and 1979. He was a Marxist-Leninist and a staunch anti-imperialist. He was also a Pan-Africanist and a leading figure in the Non-Aligned Movement.
