Egyptian-American chemist Ahmed Zewail was born in 1946 in Alexandria, Egypt. He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1999 for his work on femtochemistry, the study of chemical reactions at the speed of light. Zewail is the first Egyptian and Arab to win a Nobel Prize in the sciences.
