Abu Yusuf Ya'qub ibn Ishaq al-Kindi (801–873), also known as al-Kindi, was an Arab polymath who wrote on numerous subjects including philosophy, astronomy, astrology, alchemy, mathematics, optics, and music. He is considered to be the first true philosopher of the Islamic world, and has been hailed as the "Father of Arab Philosophy". Al-Kindi's work was influenced by the Greek philosophers Aristotle and Plato, as well as the Neoplatonists.
