The Arab geographer, Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn al-Hussain ibn Ali al-Masudi, was a polymath who wrote on many topics, including geography, history, religion, and literature. He is considered one of the most important Arab geographers and his work, Muruj al-Dhahab wa Ma'adin al-Jawhar (The Meadows of Gold and Mines of Jewels), was one of the most influential works on geography in the Middle Ages.
