The earliest evidence of Saint Alban comes from early named martyrs records. In these records, Alban is mentioned as the first Christian martyr in Britain. He is said to have been a Roman soldier who was converted to Christianity by a priest named Amphibalus. Alban sheltered Amphibalus from persecution and, when the priest was captured, Alban took his place and was executed.
