Albert I of Belgium was born in Brussels on 8 April 1875. His full name was Albert Maria Philippe. He was the second son of Leopold II and Louise of Austria-Hungary. Albert's older brother, Leopold, died in infancy, making Albert the heir to the Belgian throne. He succeeded his father as king in 1909 and reigned until his death in 1934.
