Aldus Manutius was born in Bassiano, near Rome, in 1450. He studied law at the University of Ferrara, where he met the printer Johannes de Spira. In 1481, Manutius moved to Venice, where he learned how to be a printer. He founded the Aldine Press in 1495 and published many important works of classical literature.
