In addition to being a politician, Alexander A. Arnold was also a lawyer. He graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1869 and practiced law in Detroit for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1883 to 1885 and served as the 30th Governor of Michigan from 1889 to 1891.
