Answer
Margaret, Maid of Norway was the only legitimate child of Alexander III, King of Scots. After Alexander's death in a riding accident in 1286, the Scottish succession passed to Margaret, then three years old. However, she died on her way to Scotland in 1290, and the resulting succession crisis led to the Wars of Scottish Independence.
