Alexander Oparin was born in Ufa, Russia. He later moved to Moscow, where he studied chemistry at the Moscow State University. He also worked at the Institute of Biochemistry and Physiology of Microorganisms at the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Oparin is best known for his work on the origin of life.
