Alexander Lanskoy was the favourite and lover of Catherine the Great from 1780-1784. He was a young and handsome man who was able to charm the Empress and win her favour. He was also a talented dancer and musician, which helped to make him a popular figure at court. Lanskoy was eventually dismissed by Catherine in 1784, after he became involved in a scandal with another woman.
