Answer
Syriza won 149 seats in the Hellenic Parliament in the snap legislative election of January 2015. This gave them a majority in the parliament and allowed them to form a government. The election was called after the previous government, led by Antonis Samaras, collapsed. Syriza campaigned on a platform of opposing austerity measures imposed by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.
