Sancho IV was the future ruler of Castile who started a civil war with Alfonso X towards the end of his rule. He was the son of Alfonso X and Violante of Aragon. Sancho was initially named heir to the throne, but in 1275, Alfonso X changed his mind and named his illegitimate son, Ferdinand de la Cerda, as his heir.
