Alfonso XII died at the Palace of El Pardo in Madrid, Spain on November 25, 1885. He was 28 years old. He had been suffering from tuberculosis for several years. His death was a great shock to the Spanish people, who had come to love him for his kind and gentle nature. He was succeeded by his son, Alfonso XIII.
