The first practical IQ test was invented by Alfred Binet, a French psychologist. Binet developed the test in 1905 at the request of the French government to identify students who needed additional educational support. The test, originally known as the Binet-Simon Scale, measured a child's mental age and intelligence quotient (IQ).
