In 1904, the French Ministry of Education approached Alfred Binet, a French psychologist, to develop a method for identifying students who were struggling academically. Binet and his colleague, Theodore Simon, subsequently developed the Binet-Simon Intelligence Scale, which was the first widely used intelligence test.
