Allan Octavian Hume was a British civil servant, naturalist and politician who is considered by some as the "Father of Indian Ornithology". Hume wrote a number of books on Indian birds and collected many specimens for the Natural History Museum in London. He was also a founder of the Indian National Congress and served as its first President.
