After the passing of bassist Allen Woody, Warren Haynes asked Allen Lanier, a member of Gov't Mule's touring band, to join the group as a permanent member. Lanier had been a member of Gov't Mule's touring band since the late 1990s, and had also played with Haynes in other bands, including the Allman Brothers Band.
