Allvar Gullstrand was a Swedish ophthalmologist and physicist and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1911 for his work on the dioptrics of the eye. He developed Theory of astigmatism and invented the slit lamp, a device used to examine the anterior segment of the eye.
