After Mahler's death in 1911, Alma married the Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius in 1915. Gropius was 10 years younger than Alma, and the marriage was initially happy, but it was later troubled by Gropius' infidelity. Alma and Gropius had two children together, a son named Peter and a daughter named Manon. In 1929, Gropius left Alma for another woman, and the couple divorced.
