In 2007, Almazbek Atambayev became Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan after he was elected as the head of the Kyrgyz Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan (SDPK). Atambayev's election came after the SDPK won the majority of seats in the 2007 parliamentary elections. Atambayev served as Prime Minister until 2010, when he was elected President of Kyrgyzstan.
