Augustine of Hippo was greatly influenced by Ambrose. Ambrose was the bishop of Milan, where Augustine was living as a student. Augustine was initially a Manichaean, but was converted to Christianity by Ambrose. Ambrose's sermons and writings were an important influence on Augustine's thought, and Augustine later wrote about Ambrose in his Confessions.
