Amélie Nothomb is a Belgian writer. She was born in Etterbeek, Brussels, on 13 August 1967. She is the daughter of Patrick Nothomb, a Belgian diplomat, and the niece of Charles-Ferdinand Nothomb, a former Prime Minister of Belgium. Nothomb began her career as a journalist for the Belgian newspaper Le Soir. In 1992, she published her first novel, Hygiène de l'assassin, which was a critical and commercial success.
