Until 1999, Major League Baseball (MLB) had two separate umpire training programs, one for the American League (AL) and one for the National League (NL). Umpires were trained at the Al Lopez Umpire School in Daytona Beach, Florida, and the Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School in Ormond Beach, Florida, respectively.
