Answer
Two major historical accounts survive from antiquity: Marcellinus and Procopius. Marcellinus wrote a history of the Roman Empire from the death of Theodosius I in 395 to the death of Justinian I in 565. Procopius wrote a history of the reign of Justinian, as well as a secret history that was critical of Justinian and his wife, Theodora.
