The Res gestae (meaning "The Deeds") is an historical account written by the 4th century AD Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus. It is the only surviving history of the Western Roman Empire from the death of Emperor Julian the Apostate in 363 to the death of Emperor Valens at the Battle of Adrianople in 378.
