Born in Wolcott, Connecticut, Amos Bronson Alcott was a transcendentalist philosopher, educator, and reformer. He is best known for his experimental school, the Temple School, which he founded in Boston in 1834. Alcott's educational theories were based on the belief that children should be allowed to develop naturally and that they should be taught to think for themselves.
