An Lushan was born on 19 February 703. He was a Sogdian general who served in the Tang dynasty of China. In 755, he led a rebellion against the Tang government, which resulted in the An Lushan Rebellion. The rebellion lasted for eight years and caused widespread destruction and loss of life. An Lushan was eventually defeated and killed in 757.
