Ananda Mahidol, full name Ananda Mahidol Adulyadej, was the eighth king of the Chakri dynasty of Siam (now Thailand). He reigned from 1935 until his assassination in 1946. Born in Heidelberg, Germany, to Prince Mahidol Adulyadej and Mom Sangwal, he was the only son of King Rama VI. Ananda Mahidol was educated in Switzerland and France before returning to Thailand in 1935 to ascend to the throne.
