Andrea Mantegna was a Renaissance painter who was born in Italy in 1431 and died in Italy in 1506. He was one of the most important painters of the Italian Renaissance, and his work was greatly influenced by the work of other Italian Renaissance painters such as Piero della Francesca and Giovanni Bellini. Mantegna never traveled outside of Italy, and his work is largely focused on Italian subjects.
